Students attend Barclay’s Eagle Lab Agri-Tech Start-Up session

Our students were invited to attend a Agri-Tech Business Start-Up session on 17th May 2021. The session, run by Barclay’s Eagle Labs and in conjunction with the University of Lincoln, was intended to give students within Agri-Tech domains, an insight into what is needed to set up a start-up company.

David May, Deputy Director LIAT spoke about global conditions for food and farming, and the potential for impactful careers in agri-food technology.  Claire Rose, Business Development Manager for Lincoln Agri-Robotics, spoke about innovation and how business ‘start-ups’ can make impact in the world. Michelle Frost, Barclays Lab (Farm) spoke about the benefits of Lab membership, and the types of business support that Lab membership provides.

The Barclays Eagle Lab (Farm) is an innovation hub, part of the Barclays Eagle Lab innovation ecosystem; located onsite at Lincoln University’s Riseholme Campus, and connected to agriculture, robotics, computer science, agronomy and sustainable farming innovation networks, practical site facilities e.g. a robotics lab, engineering workshop, trials spaces, greenhouses, and a walled garden;  it is a great place to grow a business, out of your PhD research.’ We run an Agritech Accellerator too, designed to help businesses grow and flourish in the agri-food tech space.

What did our students think?

I found it useful. Particularly benefitted from the information about startup incubators targeted at specifically PhD students. Had no idea they were a thing!

The highlight was a guy who actually run a startup giving me an overview of how I sustain myself when running a startup.
